Sunday 14th August was the final day of the Masters and while Tiger was taming Augusta, a Fox was assisting her partner to tame Lurgan. In the first mixed competition of the season, conditions were difficult with blustery winds and a definite wind chill factor, however twenty six pairs braved the elements to try to capture the title.
Top of the class at the end of the day were Joe Dowey and his partner, Elaine Fox who finished with 39 points in a steady round which included seven pars. This was good enough to resign Vice-Captain Eugene Maguire and his wife Christine to the runners up spot, as they too had 39 points with the contest being decided on the last hole score. Christine is having a great start to the season having won the ladies competition on Tuesday so no doubt she kept Eugene on the straight and narrow! Third place with 35 points, went to husband and wife team, Trevor and Eleanor Turnbull, a pair who consistently finish well in the mixed competitions. The gross prize was won by the father and daughter combination of Damian and Cara Murphy who had 27 gross points and are no strangers to claiming that prize.
