Twenty-six hardy ladies braved the elements, on Tuesday 5th March, to play for Miss Sarah Denver’s prize in their first competition of the season.
While everyone tried their best to claim the “bragging rights” of winning the first competition of the year Pamela Morrow continued the good form she showed over the winter months and took top spot with 20 pts. After a dodgy start Pam steadied the ship and showed her intent to continue her good golf with an impressive score under difficult conditions.
Another lady showing fine form was the gross winner Cara Murphy. Cara played in the worst of the weather, through very squally showers, but her card had two great birdies at the first and the seventh and she toured the 9 holes in just one over par to take the gross prize.
Division one was a very closely contested affair between Sarah’s friend Jacqueline Conn and her mum Liz Denver with Jacqueline taking the honours with 19 pts courtesy of the better last 6 holes. Division two was also a very close contest with the ever competitive Eileen McCann just holding off Elaine Bell and Margaret Tate also in the last 6 holes.
The final prize of the day went to Brenda Gallery in division three with 16 pts and Brenda proved her determination with a very tidy last 8 holes after a ding at the first.
Congratulations to all the prize winners and a big thanks to Sarah for donating the prize. Despite the weather all the ladies agreed it was great to see the season start and all were looking forward to warmer weather, lighter nights and to a good seasons golf and craic. Ladies are reminded that the next competition will take place on Thursday 14th March.
