On Sunday 5th May, twenty six pairings lined up to compete for two of the oldest trophies in the club, the Majority Cups, plural, as there is a beautiful silver cup for each of the winners.
The pair fortunate enough to secure them, were husband and wife team, Phil and Gina Lewis. Having just returned from a short break up the north coast, their training over the Portstewart links obviously stood them in good stead, as they were clear winners with a magnificent 40 points. The previous mixed winners, Joe Dowey and Elaine Fox had to settle this time for the runners up spot with a very creditable 36 points. They just pipped the consistent pairing of Michael Horan and Lynne Hanna, who also had 36 points, to second place beating them with a better back nine. The gross prize was won by Laurence McGrady and Christine Hagan with 28 gross points.
The next Sunday Open Mixed Greensomes competition will be held on Sunday 14th July.
