The ladies took advantage of the continuing good weather to play for Eithne McAtavey's prize this week and the winner was Clare McGourty with 40 pts. Clare has enjoyed a good year's golf and on occasions despite hitting a "great ball" her short game has let her down but yesterday everything must have clicked into place to produce a tidy card including a birdie at the 11th.

There was a large turn out of ladies for their end of season prize night where Lady Captain Pam Graham presented all the winners with their awards. Lady Captain Pam Graham congratulated Sheena McStay and her Junior Cup Team on their All Ireland success and thank all the ladies for their support throughout the year.

Members are reminded that when leaving the 9th green and proceeding to the 10th tee box they must follow the path around the club house. Several members have been observed cutting across the back of the 18th green and also walking directly over the putting green. History was made on Saturday at Monkstown Golf Club in Cork when Sheena McStay's Junior Cup team brought home the first senior Irish title and the cherished green pennant to Lurgan Golf Club. The team faced Munster representatives Dooks and while they were quietly confident, having played so well in the semi-final, they knew they would have a very tough battle on their hands and what a battle it turned out to be.

The Perpetual Claret Jug was presented to the club by the Ladies' Branch to mark the club's centenary in 1993 and yesterday marked the Jug's 'coming of age' when it was competed for on the 21st occasion. Many who remember those centenary celebrations will find it hard to believe they were 21 years ago!

The Junior Cup team continued their quest for the first All Ireland Ladies pennant when they faced Milltown Golf Club from Leinster in Friday's semi-final. Tired from the endeavours of the previous day it took a while for the players to settle into the game and round the front nine all matches were very close.

The Lurgan Junior Cup team faced Connaught representatives, Castlebar Golf Club in the quarter finals on Thursday at Monkstown Golf Club in Cork. Maeve Cummins was first out against an experienced opponent. The opening four holes were close affairs with all holes halved but Maeve played some excellent golf at the end of the front nine to go four up after nine.
