Club Captain 2017 Chris Stevenson

Captain’s Foreword

It is a great honour to accept the role of Club Captain as I follow in a long line of past Captains who have contributed to the success of this Club.  Many thanks to our Past Captain Martin McCooe, and Council members, for all their hard work during the past year.  With the support of my Vice Captain Barry Mulholland I look forward to representing the Club this incoming year, visiting as many other Clubs as possible when supporting our teams during the competition season.

The Men’s Junior Cup team won the Ulster Section last year being narrowly defeated in the All Ireland Final at Carton House.  Our teams have been growing in strength year by year and we are hoping they can go the extra mile this year, by bringing home a green pennant or two, along with some more silverware to adorn our trophy cabinet.

The course continues to improve year by year, thanks to the hard work of the Head Greens Keeper Neil Gordon, his staff, and our greens conveyor Tom Douglas.  Our course and facilities are the envy of many other Clubs, with the golf academy recognised as a GUI Centre of Excellence, and a first class pro shop supported by Peter, Lynne and his staff. Many congratulations to Peter having being appointed pro PGA vice-captain this year, and he will take on his role as PGA Captain in 2019.  This is indeed a great honour for Peter, his family and also for our Club.

Our catering facilities are indeed a credit to the Club thanks to the hard work put in by Mickey, Colleen and their staff.  It would be remiss of me not to give thanks to Stevie and his friendly staff behind the bar for the way they look after us during the year.  Muriel with the help of Hanna and Grainne are always there to help members and to ensure the smooth running of the Club.

As some of you may be aware my wife Joy has been elected Lady Captain this year, and I believe this is the first time in the history of the Club that a husband and wife have been Captain and Lady Captain in the same year.  So I would wish Joy and the Ladies Branch continued success this year.

I take great pride in what our Club has achieved over the years, and I know this is shared by the vast majority of our members, who by working together contribute to our Club growing in stature.  I look forward to meeting and playing with as many members as possible, and for everyone to have a very enjoyable year of golf.
